2 September 2008: National Volunteering Research Symposium (Gold Coast, QLD) – submissions close 6 May 2008

The event presents a unique opportunity for researchers to share their work with fellow researchers and to discuss the practice, priorities and possibilities of research for the advancement of volunteering.

 

1-4 September 2008: 11th International Riversymposium (Brisbane, QLD)

The 11th International Riversymposium is being held in Brisbane, Australia, in conjunction with Riverfestival. The theme for this year’s symposium is ‘A Future of Extremes’ and will explore the challenges associated with the increased incidence of flooding and drought expected with climate change.

 

September 3- 5 2008: 12th National Conference on Volunteering (Gold Coast, QLD)

 The only Australian conference that tackles issues in volunteering.

 

7 September 2008: National Threatened Species Day (Australia)

National Threatened Species Day is held each year to encourage the community to help conserve Australia's unique native fauna and flora.

 

16-21 October 2008: International Pacific Marine Educators Conference (Townsville, QLD)

Marine educators worldwide will gather in the tropical Australian city of Townsville to share resources and to continue ongoing efforts to build a network aimed at ensuring the health of the Pacific and the communities who depend upon it.

 

19-22 October: Coastal Zone Asia Pacific Conference 2008 (China)

Hosted by Dr. Julia Xue at the Ocean University of China, this conference will be held in Qingdao, China. The theme for this conference is Sustainable Coast and Better Life.

 

16-21 October 2008: IPMEN 08 (Townsville, QLD)
Marine educators worldwide will gather in the Townsville to share resources and to continue ongoing efforts to build a network aimed at ensuring the health of the Pacific Ocean and the communities who depend upon it.

 

19-22 October 2008: 2008 International Youth Coastal Conference (Townsville, QLD)

The conference seeks to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and enhancing our coastal environments, communities and industries through education and involvement of the next generation of leaders.

 

October 20– 24 2008: BIOMARINE: Towards an international Sea Policy: Inspiration from the European Model (Marseille, France)

BioMarine is a unique international forum that will bring together business, science, government, civil society and media to advance ocean sustainability.

  

16-19 November 2008: 2008 International Low Impact Development Conference (Seattle, USA)

Hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers, this conference will be held in Seattle (USA).  The conference will highlight new and continuing work including research, developments, and community adoption of LID throughout the United States and other countries.

 

24-28 November 2008: Australian Protected Areas Congress 2008 (Sunshine Coast, QLD)

The congress will focus on the values, benefits and contemporary and future importance of protected areas for humankind in Australia. Terrestrial, freshwater and marine protected areas will all be considered. 

November 25–28 2008: LITTORAL 2008- A CHANGING COAST: CHALLENGE THE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES. 9th International Conference (Italy)

The Coastal Union and EUROCOAST have the pleasure to invite you to participate in this LITTORAL 2008. Abstract submission extended 12th May.

 

International Year of the Reef 2008 (International)

The International Year of the Reef 2008 is a year-long campaign of events and initiatives hosted by governments, individuals, corporations, schools around the world to promote awareness, conservation action and strengthen long-term constituencies for coral reef conservation.

17-19 February 2009: 29th Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology & Conservation (Brisbane, QLD)

Creating – Community – Collaboration: The symposium will explore themes such as building communication and networking at local, regional, and global scales. It aims to create linkages between communities and to connect policy-makers and managers at all levels with the latest information coming out of sea turtle research and conservation programs. This is the International Sea Turtle Society’s annual symposium and is a large event.

17-19 February 2009: 29th Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology & Conservation (Brisbane, QLD)

The 29th Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology & Conservation brings people together to promote the exchange of information that advances the global knowledge of sea turtle biology and conservation.

 

2009: World Aquaculture Society Congress 2009

The congress will be held in Boca Del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico and sponsored by the International Association of Aquaculture, Economics and Management (IAAEM). This is an advanced call for abstracts to authors in the Latin American and Caribbean regions, who are encouraged to submit papers specialised in Aquaculture Economics and Management, to be presented orally at this special session in WAS 2009.

8-11 June 2009: 2009 Australian Society for Fish Biology Workshop and Conference (Fremantle, WA)

To be held in conjunction with the Indo-Pacific Fish Conference, the workshop theme is Biodiversity: what to measure and monitor for fisheries and aquatic ecosystem management.

July 7-10 2008: Joint NZ and Australian Marine Sciences Conference (Christchurch, NZ)

New Zealand Marine Sciences Society and the Australian Marine Sciences Association are teaming up to bring New Zealand and Australian researchers together for a four day conference. Registration is online and abstracts are due May 23rd!!
